COVID Home Learning

Dear parents,

In preparation for children that might need to isolate last minute, here is a page of relevant resources and activities linked to our learning in class this month. These are accessible immediately and can be completed if children have to isolate at home . If I know a family is isolating and children are not going to be in school then I will update the blog daily with work to complete linked to our learning in class for the time they are going to be off. As always, please let me know if you need anything specific or any support and guidance.

Thank you

Miss Stockmann ๐Ÿ™‚

I have attached the full booklet and a few pictures of some of the activities inside. There are questions on multiplication, time, multiples, 3d shapes and much more.

Spelling

Below are the statutory spellings for Year 3 and 4. If you are working from home you could choose 5 spellings from this list each day to learn. We use a range of strategies in class to help us learn the spellings. We draw them, complete scribble spellings, put them into sentences, use dictionaries to find their meanings and write them in different rainbow colours.

English

Our English and Big Idea this month is linked to Wallace and Gromit’s cracking contraptions. In school we are designing, making and evaluating our own cracking contraption. I have attached a bumper pack of English based activities in the pdf document below. Have a look through and choose some activities that you might like to complete.

Reading

Children all have access to Reading Plus so please take some time to complete some of the activities from there today. You may also want to take this time to read some longer texts with the children where the story develops over time.

Friday 5th March 2021

Good morning everyone,

Today is our final live lesson. From next week you will all be back in school learning in the classroom again. I know lots of you have shared with me how excited you are to be back together and see all your friends. If you do have any questions or want to ask Miss Stockmann or myself anything about your return back to school please get in touch.

I want to say a huge thank you to all the mums, dads, sisters brothers, grandmas and grandads who have become overnight teachers. You have all done the most incredible job and because of your time, effort and dedication the children have been able to continue with their learning in these difficult times.

For today’s zoom session we are going to have a little party . I know when we first went in to lockdown we talked about all the things you would miss the most and birthdays and parties was one of them. It will be through zoom so it will be a little different to a traditional party, but we will all be together and we can have lots of fun. You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in and our session will be at 10am just like normal.

For your spelling activity today I would like you to do your spelling test. I would like you to send me a picture of your spelling test today so I can see how you got on.

English

For your English activity today I would like you to write a letter to Miss Stockmann telling her all about yourself. You can write about whatever you want and tell Miss Stockmann lots of interesting things about you. You could talk about school, your hobbies, your family, your favourite things…..anything you would like her to know.

Please take these letters to school with you on Monday so you can hand them in to Miss Stockmann and she can read them to get to know more about you ๐Ÿ™‚

You can use the template I have attached or design your own. You might like to type your letter up or just write it up in your best handwriting.

This afternoon I would like you to take some time to read for pleasure. Choose a book, magazine or blog that you love and take the time to read it without distractions. Perhaps other family members might like to do the same too and join you?

PE

Your PE lesson this afternoon is with Mrย  Wilson and focuses on Health Related exercises ( try not to jump at the start). The session lasts about 45 minutes and is really good to follow at home.

Tuesday 2nd March 2021

Good morning everyone,

Today’s live lesson is English and is at 10am. You will need your English book and a sharp pencil ready to write and draw.

Morning Maths

Mathsย

Learning Objective- to calculate change.

The best way to learn how to give change is to actually give change. For your learning todayย  I am going to ask you to create a small shop at home. You can choose whatever it is that your shop is going to sell….it could be teddies, it could be food, it could be anything you choose. To set up your shop you will need to have:

  • Pretend money- notes and coins and cut these out ready to pay with and give change with. British coins and notes
  • Price tags or stickers for the object you need ( Try and make your prices in pounds and pence e.g. ยฃ1.50) . Price Tags
  • A pad of receipts so you can give your customer(s) a receipt for the total goods they buy from your shop. Receipt
  • A selection of objects/ toys from around the house.

One you have set up your shop you can ask mum, dad, brothers or sisters to come and buy some things from your shop (you will need to give them some pretend money to pay with. )

Skills you will need to use.

  • Addition- You will need to add the prices together of the objects bought in your shop to find a total.
  • Subtraction- Counting on to find the difference. When a customer pays you for the items they are buying you will need to use your subtraction skill from yesterday of ‘finding the difference’ to work out the correct change to give.

Spelling

For your spelling activity today I would like you to complete a scribble spell. Use bright colours and make sure each spelling is written down correctly every time.

English

Our learning in English over the next few weeks is going to link directly to our learning in Design and Technology and our Big Idea. In our lesson today we will be starting to talk through our design process as part of our design, make and evaluate cycle. After our live lesson today I would like you to complete the cracking contraption design brief below to record the ideas we talk through in the lesson.

Design Brief- Cracking contraption

Reading

For your reading activity today I would like you to use your reading skills to explore the world of Wallace and Gromit on their website:

https://www.wallaceandgromit.com/

You can navigate around the website and read all about the History of the animation, read the latest news and then complete some of the activities.

PSHCE

For your learning in PSHCE I would like you to take some time and be reflective. Next week we are going to be going back to school. I want you to take some time this week to think about and reflect on this and have attached a story and a little activity to help.

Please read the story below carefully and think about your feelings about returning to school. I would like you to answer these questions in your English book then send me a photo. This way I can get back to you and answer any of your questions and support you with any worries you have.

1)What are you most excited about?

2)Is there anything you are worried about?

3)Have you got any questions that you want to ask or are unsure about?
